DRAFT — NOT YET IN EFFECT. This page is a starting point written to describe what StateHireReady actually does today. It has not been reviewed by an attorney and is not a substitute for professional legal advice. Do not treat this as StateHireReady's binding policy until it has been reviewed and formally published.
Terms of Use
Draft — last updated [date]
1. What StateHireReady is
StateHireReady ("we," "us," the "Service") is an independent, privately operated tool that helps people prepare applications for California State government jobs. StateHireReady is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the State of California, CalHR, CalCareers, the State Personnel Board, or any State department. Using StateHireReady does not submit, file, or create any application with any State agency — you must still apply directly through the official State channel (currently CalCareers) yourself.
2. No guarantee of outcome
We do not guarantee that using StateHireReady will result in meeting eligibility requirements, passing an examination, being interviewed, being placed on an eligible list, or being hired. Preparation tools, AI-generated drafts, and practice exercises are aids, not a substitute for verifying every requirement directly against the official job bulletin and the hiring department's own instructions.
3. Your account
You must provide accurate information when creating an account and are responsible for keeping your password confidential. You're responsible for activity that happens under your account. Tell us immediately if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
4. Your content and how AI features use it
You keep ownership of what you type into StateHireReady — your Career Profile, job postings you paste in, résumé/SOQ drafts, and practice answers.
Some features (Career Coach, SOQ Coach, STD 678 Review, Cover Letter drafting, and similar tools) send the specific text you provide to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a response. These tools are instructed to work only from what you actually typed — never to invent employers, dates, credentials, or accomplishments you didn't state. You are responsible for reviewing anything AI-assisted before submitting it to any real employer or State agency — AI output can still be wrong, and you are the one certifying your own application under penalty of perjury on the actual State form.
You agree not to use StateHireReady to submit false information on any real government application.
5. Community content (Success Stories)
If you submit a story about your own hiring outcome for publication, you're confirming it's true and that you consent to it being shown publicly under whatever display name you provide. We review submissions before publishing and may decline or remove any submission at our discretion.
6. Payment and packages
StateHireReady offers a free tier and paid packages described on the Packages page. [DRAFT NOTE: payment processing is not yet live as of this draft — this section needs to be completed once a real payment processor is integrated, covering billing cycles, cancellation, and what happens to paid access if a subscription lapses.]
7. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from Account Settings, which permanently removes your Career Profile, saved jobs, checklists, documents, and practice history. We may suspend or terminate access for violating these terms.
8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
StateHireReady is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for hiring decisions, examination results, missed deadlines, or other outcomes related to your use of the Service. [DRAFT NOTE: exact limitation-of- liability language, dispute resolution/arbitration clause if any, and governing-law clause need attorney drafting specific to where the business is formed and operates.]
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the Service changes. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "last updated" date on this page.
